“…Sinha et al [4] also found similar results and concluded that proptosis is the commonest clinical presentation in neoplastic lesions of nose and paranasal sinuses. Various studies on orbital involvement in sinonasal diseases reported that squamous cell carcinoma of maxillary sinus mostly involves the orbit [2], [5], [6]. Our findings are similar to the findings of most of the similar studies.…”

“…In our study we observed two cases of exophthalmos caused by thyroid orbitopathy. Johnson et al studied a series of paranasal sinus tumours where they found 59.49% of the cases had clinical, radiographic or operative evidence of orbital involvement and of which involvement of the orbit was initial presentation in 70% cases [6]. This is bound to differ from our study as our study included all cases where orbit was already involved and proptosis was the ocular presenting feature in 100% cases of sinus tumours.…”

“…A total of 79 cases of paranasal sinus tumours were reviewed by Johnson et al [11]. Of these 47 (59%) demonstrated orbital involvement out of which 18 (38%) patients had proptosis and 16 (34%) had nasal obstruction as a presenting complaint.…”

“…Lenworth Johnson et al [11] reviewed a total number of 47 cases of para-nansal sinus tumours invading the orbit and found maxillary sinus was the most common site of origin of para-nasal sinus tumours (61%). This is comparable with present study as most of tumours were found to be originating from maxillo-ethmoidal region (47.5%).…”

“…Na grande maioria dos casos, a neoplasia se apresenta em estágio avançado no momento do diagnóstico (7,16) , não se limitando a uma única cavidade sinusal (5,10,17,21) . O atraso no diagnóstico tem sido atribuído aos sintomas da doença, que comumente simulam aqueles relacionados à doença inflamatória ou sinusite crôni-ca (15,20,23) . A duração dos sintomas pode variar de alguns meses a anos (15,16,19) .…”
