Six-Minute Magnetic Resonance Imaging Protocol for Evaluation of Acute Ischemic Stroke

Abstract: 5Noncontrast CT is used in initial evaluation of AIS, in part, because of fast acquisition time, widespread availability, and ease of interpretation in the emergency setting. The introduction of multislice technology has expanded the CT armamentarium to make multimodal CT that includes CT angiography and whole-brain coverage perfusion CT feasible in the acute stroke setting. This technology has dramatically increased the speed and simplicity of CT techniques and has set a high standard for alternative imaging … Show more

“…While, multimodal CT, including NCCT, CTP, and CTA, can address all the acute imaging needs required for screening thrombectomy candidates [22]. NCCT, as the standard imaging method for intracerebral hemorrhage, can identify acute hemorrhage sensitively and reliably [23]. Since CTP and multiphase CTA are capable of assessing the ischemic penumbra and collateral flow in affected territories efficiently, they were widely used in randomized controlled trials [15-17].…”

“…Therefore, to maintain the benefits of multimodal MRI and to offer the best care and to balance time and accuracy, QI processes should be implemented with the aim of reducing DTN time by limiting any transitional delays without sacrificing any radiologic information provided by multimodal MRI. Advances in MRI technology for faster image acquisition times [32] and improvements in other aspects of the workflow could allow the additional reduction of the median DTN time to ≤30 min, further decreasing the gap with CT, the first-choice modality for patient selection [14, 15, 20]. …”

“…Segulómun gefur frábaerar myndir sem varpa ljósi á meingerð bráðaslags, en hún er notuð sem aðalrannsókn á fáum stöðum. Aðal vandamálið, þrátt fyrir að haegt sé að gera rannsóknina skjótt (á um 6 mínútum þar sem fjölþaettir verkferlar eru notaðir), 42 eru tafir vegna skimunar sjúklinga fyrir segulómunarrannsókn og skjótur forgangur á álagsmiklum sjúkrahúsum. Því hefur verið bent á að nota segulómun þegar ákvarða á meðferð í erfiðari tilfellum.…”
