SKA-Phase 1 sensitivity to synchrotron radio emission from multi-TeV Dark Matter candidates

Abstract: In the era of radio astronomy, the high sensitivity of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) could play a decisive role in the detection of new radio sources. In this work, we study the SKA sensitivity to the synchrotron radio emission expected by the annihilation of TeV DM candidate in the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy. On the one hand, we consider model-independent DM candidates: we find out that with 1000 hours of data-taking, SKA1-MID will be able to exclude up to 10 TeV thermal DM candidates that annihilate in… Show more

“…Thus, for the TeV energy scale new research windows will be opened by the current generation of cosmic-ray observatories (e.g., H.E.S.S. [339][340][341], IceCube [342]) and the next generation of experiments, e.g., Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) [343,344] and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) [345]. These experiments, beside the detection, will able to constraint the WIMPS mass to much higher value than the current one.…”

“…3 DM-induced emission may also be expected in radio due to synchrotron radiation from secondary particles [48][49][50][51]; yet the high density of radio sources would make any potential association probably very challenging.…”

“…The purple dashed-dotted line represents the estimated branon sensitivity for 500 h observation on the dSph Draco with the future CTA [38]. The estimated sensitivity for 1000 h observation on the classical dSph Draco with the planned SKA, assuming the W + W − annihilation mode, are represented by the yellow dotted line [37].…”

“…The analysis of AMS-02 e + e − data excludes the orange region [36]. Both exclusion regions were translated to the σv parameter space from [37]. The purple dashed-dotted line represents the estimated branon sensitivity for 500 h observation on the dSph Draco with the future CTA [38].…”
