Sketching the Bethe-Salpeter Kernel

Abstract: An exact form is presented for the axial-vector Bethe-Salpeter equation, which is valid when the quark-gluon vertex is fully dressed. A Ward-Takahashi identity for the Bethe-Salpeter kernel is derived therefrom and solved for a class of dressed quark-gluon vertex models. The solution provides a symmetry-preserving closed system of gap and vertex equations. The analysis can be extended to the vector equation. This enables a comparison between the responses of pseudoscalarand scalar meson masses to nonperturbati… Show more

“…At lowest-order in a symmetry-preserving truncation of the model's DSEs [40], one finds algebraically that m π = 0, m σ = 2M [41]. Corrections to the leading order truncation do not change m π but markedly increase m σ [42]. Degeneracy of the lowest excitations in the pseudoscalar and scalar channels is only achieved when M = 0; i.e., if chiral symmetry is not dynamically broken.…”

“…diquarks on the other hand. Whereas pseudoscalar and vector mesons are well described in rainbow-ladder, scalar and axialvector mesons come out too light [308,332] -which can be remedied with more sophisticated truncations [209,244]. Thus the diquarks will inherit this behaviour: the scalar and axialvector diquarks which are mainly responsible for positive-parity baryons are reliable, whereas the pseudoscalar and vector diquarks will produce negativeparity baryons that are also too light and acquire repulsive shifts beyond rainbow-ladder.…”

“…There is, however, a different scheme [244,245] by which a Bethe-Salpeter kernel can be constructed that is also in accord with the axial WTI. To explain the basic ideas we need to anticipate some of the discussion in Secs …”
