BackgroundSkin aging is a gradual cumulative process that may be accelerated by various exposome factors.AimsTo investigate associations between exposome factors and facial skin aging in 11 locations in Argentina.Patients/MethodsAn observational, cross‐sectional study with assessments by exposome questionnaire, Glogau photoaging classification from I to IV, AI‐based algorithm analysis of 7 skin aging signs, and SCINEXA score.ResultsOf 1346 participants, most were women (82%), aged 31–50 years (62%), of skin phototype III (52%), and living in urban areas (94%). The Glogau skin age was higher than the chronological age for 28% of overall participants, 36% of men, and 45% of participants from Ciudad de Buenos Aires versus 12% from Jujuy (p < 0.001).Being male (OR = 1.59; 95% CI 1.18–2.13), exposed to agrochemicals (OR = 1.59: 95% CI 1.01–2.51), of lower socioeconomic levels (OR = 2.06; 95% CI 1.32–3.21) and doing outdoor physical activity (OR = 1.33; 95% CI 1.00–1.76) increased the risk for premature aging. Odds decreased with high daily intake of water (OR = 0.76; 95% CI 0.59–0.97), daily dermocosmetic use (moisturizers [OR = 0.72; 95% CI 0.55–0.94], cleansers [OR = 0.53; CI 95% 0.42–0.67], retinoids [OR = 0.61; 95% CI 0.39–0.95]), and antiaging treatments (OR = 0.74; 95% CI 0.57–0.97).ConclusionsSome exposome factors increased the risk for premature skin aging (physical outdoor activity, exposure to agrochemicals), while others were protective factors (high water intake, antiaging treatments, use of dermocosmetics). Locations with higher pollution levels had more premature skin aging.

Background — One of the manifestations of connective tissue dysplasia (CTD) is premature skin aging. The latter can have different etiological factors. The objective of our study was to investigate the effect of predictors of premature skin aging, especially CTD, on the severity of involutional changes in the skin, as well as to develop the approach for the management of patients with premature aging. Material and Methods — We included in our study 78 women 35-45 years of age with no substantial anti-aging treatment procedures in their anamneses. We considered genealogical and cosmetological anamneses, and life history (including somatic pathology), physical examination; determined prevailing type of facial skin aging; identified predictors of CTD, assessed psychoemotional state of the patient, and performed sonography of the skin and biochemical examination of patient serum. At a clinical stage, we conducted a randomized comparative study of biorevitalizant efficacy in patients with normal and premature patterns of skin aging. Results — Our study established the role of CTD in assessing the risk of premature skin aging. In addition to the presence of CTD, the importance of identifying isolated phenotypic manifestations of CTD (such as arachnodactyly, hypermobility syndrome, low relative weight of the patient, and skin manifestations of CTD) was shown. Other predictors were also analyzed; their identification can help assessing the risk of premature skin aging. Among them, somatic pathology (varicose veins, herniated discs, visceroptosis, autonomic vascular dystonia) and physical examination data (such as pallor of the facial skin, swelling, skin hyperelasticity) were noted. When assessing the clinical efficacy of biorevitalization, the greatest satisfaction of patients with premature skin aging regarding its results was characteristic for the group of patients after 7% collagen treatment. The clinical efficacy according to sonography and histological examination in patients with premature skin aging was significantly higher after the use of collagen or a complex hyaluronic acid (HA) preparation, compared with native HA. Patients with premature skin aging exhibited high level of anxiety and/or depression, which in turn increased the risk of underestimating the outcome of procedures. Conclusion — The presented study confirmed the role of CTD in assessing the risk of premature skin aging. Predictors were revealed (somatic pathology, type of facial aging, physical examination data of the patient, etc.) that could be used to assess the risk of premature skin aging. In patients with premature aging, preparation with native HA (as a biorevitalizant) had a low clinical efficacy comparable to using placebo. A collagen-based preparation and a complex HA-based preparation exhibited high clinical efficacy. Also, patients with premature aging of the skin had a higher score of anxiety and depression, while patients with high levels of anxiety and depression were more likely to underestimate the satisfaction with the results of their aesthetic treatment.

Background: Senescence is the deterioration of the body’s biological and physiological function throughout later life. Senescent populations are more prone to diseases, though other than osteoporosis, skeletal senescence is a less discussed topic in Indonesia. Furthermore, a global and national increase in the aging population showed that they will be a major group in society, thus raising the urgency to review this matter. This study aims to comprehend the physiological and biomechanical mechanisms of skeletal senescence, as well as senescent variations in a certain sex or population affinity. Literature Review: Age-related skeletal cellular death and imbalance contribute to bone damage in elders. Senescence also affects skeletal biomechanics, expressed in increased bone porosity and brittleness. Stresses in aged bone risk straining above its elastic limit and causing fractures due to its inability to tolerate stresses. The loss of sex hormones is related to skeletal senescence, especially in females, though the effects of testosterone on skeletal senescence are underresearched. Dietary change, estrogen replacement therapy, and calcitonin consumption are effective measures in reducing the effects of osteoporosis. Variations were found in the bone aging process in different populations, especially regarding bone mineral density loss in white, African-American, Asian, and Hispanic populations. Summary: Specific population-based healthcare services in geriatrics and gerontology are highly suggested to ensure inclusive healthcare for every aged individual. Due to the minimum data about bone aging in Indonesia (other than osteoporosis), the authors encourage data procurement on local populations to create more suitable medical guidelines for elders in Indonesia.
