Many dermatological conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis, are treated with topical therapeutic products. Instead of applying the active drug directly onto the skin, it is combined with a vehicle to aid in its delivery across the stratum corneum (SC) and into deeper regions of the skin, namely the epidermis and dermis. Absorption into the systemic circulation is minimized. Topical vehicles are also used as cosmetic moisturizers (often termed emollient therapy) to ameliorate dry skin, which is a cornerstone of the management of various dermatological conditions, including xerosis, eczema, psoriasis, and aging. The most common topical vehicles include ointments, creams, gels, and lotions, among others. It is crucial that topical vehicles are chosen based upon the size and properties (wet/dry, mucous/non-mucous, healthy/diseased) of the skin to be treated in order to optimize application and contact of the product with the skin, as this can have profound impacts on potency, efficacy, and patient compliance. This review examines common topical vehicles used for drug delivery and cosmetic moisturizers, including their formulation, advantages and disadvantages, and effects on the skin. The unique rules imposed by governing regulatory bodies in Australia and around the world, in terms of topical product claims, are also briefly examined.

Skin moisturizing gel can provide a moisturizing effect on the skin. One of the natural ingredients that can be made into gel preparations is the white peel of watermelon (Citrullus Lanatus) because it contains a lot of citrulline, vitamin A, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin E, vitamin C, and protein, beta-carotene, lycopene, and water. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of the ethanol extract of watermelon rind on increasing elasticity, sebum, and hydration in the skin of male white mice. This study used the Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design method. The stages of the research were sample collection, extraction, formulation of various concentrations of moisturizing gel preparations (0, 2.5%, 5%, and 10%). Tests were carried out on the skin of male mice for 4 weeks by measuring levels of elasticity, sebum, and hydration. The results of the phytochemical screening extracts contained flavonoids, saponins, steroids, triterpenoids, and glycosides. The evaluation results showed that all formulas met good preparation parameters and did not irritate the skin. The measurement results in the fourth week of each cream preparation group showed an increase in the levels of elasticity, sebum and hydration and differed significantly from the blank group (p <0.05) and the highest increase occurred in cream with watermelon rind extract concentration 10 %. The results of this study indicate that the cream preparation of ethanol extract of watermelon rind can increase the levels of elasticity, sebum, and hydration of the skin.

“…Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan oleh Sulistyaningsih et al (22) dalam pengkajian stabilitas sediaan emulgel ketoconazole pada parameter viskositas setelah penyimpanan 35 hari ditemukan bahwa viskositas mengalami sedikit perubahan, namun perubahan viskositas ini masih mempertahankan kestabilannya Pada analisis perbedaan viskositas dari waktu penyimpanan menggunakan uji one-way ANOVA, berdasarkan hasil nilai statistika bahwa didapat nilai p > 0.05 yang berarti tidak ada perubahan viskositas yang signifikan selama penyimpanan. Nilai viskositas yang baik dari sediaan farmasi yaitu memiliki nilai yang tinggi, dimana semakin tinggi viskositas maka pergerakan partikel akan semakin sulit sehingga bahan akan semakin stabil (16,17) . Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai viskositas sediaan krim masih memenuhi syarat sediaan krim SNI 16-4399-1996 yaitu pada kisaran 2.000 -50.000 cp (26) .…”

Mutu sediaan obat penting dipertahankan selama proses pembuatan, penyimpanan hingga digunakan. Stabilitas sediaan krim merupakan salah satu kriteria yang penting dari mutu sediaan tersebut karena akan berdampak pada efektifitas, keamanan dan mutu produk pada saat digunakan oleh masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji stabilitas sifat fisika sediaan krim ketoconazole dengan metode stabilitas penyimpanan jangka panjang (real time). Penelitian menggunakan praeksperimental dengan rancangan one shot case study dengan pengujian stabilitas jangka panjang sediaan krim ketoconazole selama 42 bulan dengan kondisi penyimpanan 30⁰C ± 2⁰C RH 75% ± 5%. Organoleptik, pH, viskositas, kadar zat aktif ketoconazole diperiksa dengan interval waktu penyimpanan selama 24, 30, 36, dan 42 bulan. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa efek penyimpanan selama 42 bulan pada pengujian organoleptik tidak menyebabkan perubahan bau, warna, dan tekstur, dimana tidak terbentuk lapisan krim serta masih mempertahankan kehomogenan. Pada pengujian pH, dan viskositas dari krim ketoconazole tidak berubah secara signifikan (p ≥ 0.05) setelah 42 bulan penyimpanan pada kondisi penyimpanan 30⁰C ± 2⁰C RH 75% ± 5%. Pada penetapan kadar zat aktif ketoconazole dalam krim selama penyimpanan tidak menunjukan degradasi yang signifikan (terjadi penurunan kadar kurang dari 5% pada penetapan kadar). Data yang diperoleh dari uji stabilitas jangka panjang menunjukan bahwa sediaan krim ketoconazole tetap stabil selama 42 bulan penyimpanan.
