Skin colorimetric parameters involved in skin age perception

Abstract: Three main optical parameters of skin were found to influence the consumer's interpretation of skin 'visual age': the chroma (color saturation), lightness, and the local light-diffusing ability of skin. For the chroma and lightness, mainly large-scale inhomogeneities in the 0.8-2 cm(-1) range are taken into account by the consumer. Surprisingly, variations in the skin hue show a total absence of correlation with the consumer grading.

“…With increasing demand for anti‐aging and lifestyle‐driven procedures, the VISIA ® Complexion Analysis System is a timely addition to dermatology or cosmetic surgery practice, as well as medical spas offering treatments for skin rejuvenation and ongoing skin care . The VISIA ® System uses standard, cross‐polarized, and UV photography to record and measure surface and subsurface skin conditions.…”

“…Arce‐Lopera et al studied the effects of subsurface and surface reflections on participants’ perceived age, based on their facial skin. However, these previous studies frequently analyzed participants using the average, variance of colorimetry, or gray‐level co‐occurrence matrix to investigate the participants’ self‐image and colorimetric age‐related color changes and their relation to skin color and perceived age . A few studies attempted to analyze age‐related skin color changes using third‐order statistics, including skewness .…”
