Skin Patchable Sensor Surveillance for Continuous Glucose Monitoring

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus is a physiological and metabolic disorder affecting millions of people worldwide, associated with global morbidity, mortality, and financial expenses. Long-term complications can be avoided by frequent, continuous self-monitoring of blood glucose. Therefore, this review summarizes the current state-of-art glycemic control regimes involving measurement approaches and basic concepts. Following an introduction to the significance of continuous glucose sensing, we have tracked the evolution of gl… Show more

“…Biosensors based on silk fibroin and their derivatives also attract great interest due to their ability to detect various small biomolecules, including biochemicals, proteins, electrolytes, and disease-specific genes. 98,99 The abundant functional groups in SF polymer chains, together with the complexity of physical interaction between molecules, can serve as excellent targets for the designing of novel detection systems for diverse diagnostic applications. 100 For example, various enzymes and aptamers can target the SF molecular chain by functional groups amino and hydroxyl, which improve their stability in the detection systems.…”

“…Most of the non-invasive sensors are enzymatic sensors, while few are non-enzymatic. Much effort has been devoted to the fabrication and functionalization of the requisite sensors for obtaining improved sensitivity [ 107 ].…”

“…High blood sugar is a disease, but if monitored regularly, the chronic effects can be mitigated. Patchables are playing a very key role in achieving this [ 54 ]. A very promising study has been carried out on measuring the effects of ultra-violet radiations on the body using patchables [ 55 ].…”
