Skin Tightening

Abstract: There are many undesirable manifestations that arise as one ages. One of the most notable undesired effects is increasing skin laxity. Traditionally, the gold standard of treatment is surgical correction of skin laxity. However, demand for noninvasive aesthetic procedures has grown due to minimal risk and accelerated recovery time. Over the years, many new devices have become available for addressing skin laxity including laser therapy, radiofrequency (RF), ultrasound, and intense pulsed light (IPL). This arti… Show more

“…Furthermore, a recent study has documented the possibility of ultra-low-frequency electric fields to induce skin pigmentation [45]. However, RFs are widely employed in medical devices used for skin tightening and improvement of skin laxity and cellulite without any significant side effects [46,47].…”

“…MFU causes an immediate contraction of denatured collagen through heat stimulation, triggers neocollagenesis, and collagen remodeling with subsequent skin tightening. It accomplishes this by establishing tiny, precisely regulated thermal coagulation sites in the mid to deep reticular dermis, all the way up to the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) [ 12 ]. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved using an MFU device (Ulthera, Ulthera Inc., Mesa, Arizona) to raise the tissues in the brow, neck, and submentum without invasive surgery.…”

“…2 This technique is among the top trends that may safely provide favorable outcomes with high satisfaction and no downtime, rivaling traditional and modern methods. [3][4][5][6][7][8][9] The combined application of HIFEM+RF is effective for simultaneous muscle toning and fat reduction. [10][11][12][13] HIFEM generates an electromagnetic field that activates neuromuscular tissue by induced electric current, leading to supramaximal muscle contractions, which create a significant energy demand causing muscles to utilize the energy stored in the adipocytes in free fatty acid form.…”

“…Recently, a novel approach of combining simultaneous high‐intensity focused electromagnetic procedure (HIFEM) and synchronized radiofrequency (RF) with a simultaneous monopolar RF and targeted pressure energy (TPE) has come to the forefront 2 . This technique is among the top trends that may safely provide favorable outcomes with high satisfaction and no downtime, rivaling traditional and modern methods 3–9 …”
