Small nucleolar RNA 42 promotes the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma through the p53 signaling pathway

Abstract: Recent studies show that small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) play an important role in tumorigenesis. SNORA42 is a potential therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker for various cancers, and the aim of the present study was to investigate the function and clinical relevance of SNORA42 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We detected the expression levels of SNORA42 in HCC and normal liver tissue samples, as well as in tumor and hepatocyte-derived cell lines. SNORA42 was significantly upregulated in the HCC tissues… Show more

“…By searching the database eQTLGen Consortium, PMS2 -rs12112229 (chr7: 6036515) was related to the expression of small nucleolar RNA ( SNORA42 , chr7:6056575). Wang G proved that SNORA42 can promote HCC cells proliferation and inhibit their apoptosis through the experiment of the SNORA42 knockdown in hepatoma cells ( Wang et al, 2021 ). And this mechanism is achieved through the P53 signaling pathway and the cell cycle.…”

“…First, the number of samples included in this study is relatively small. Second, breast cancer cells are highly heterogeneous, and the mechanism of snoRNAs in tumor genesis and development is so complex that a certain snoRNA may participate in various pathways and have multiple biological functions in different types of cells (44,45). Therefore, expanding the sample size, exploring the mechanism of multiple indicators, and analyzing the prognostic value in different types of breast cancer cells may advance the field.…”

“…However, its deletion did not exert a noticeable effect on global mRNA expression at the transcriptional level, but suppressed HCC tumorigenesis through the MAPK/ERK and TGF-βpathways. SNORA42 is highly upregulated in HCC and correlates with a poor prognosis [ 58 ]. It is critical in the development of HCC, and promotes proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibition of apoptosis.…”
