Smart Home IoT System by Using RF Energy Harvesting

Abstract: IoT system becomes a hot topic nowadays for smart home. IoT helps devices to communicate together without human intervention inside home, so it is offering many challenges. A new smart home IoT platform powered using electromagnetic energy harvesting is proposed in this paper. It contains a high gain transmitted antenna array and efficient circularly polarized array rectenna system to harvest enough power from any direction to increase lifetime of the batteries used in the IoT system. Optimized energy consumpt… Show more

“…Compared to clean energy such as solar and wind power, magnetic energy has received less attention. [544] Maharjan et al [545] designed a magnetic field energy harvester that harvests timevarying magnetic fields around indoor wires (Figure 14c). The energy harvested by the magnetic field energy harvester is supplied to the wireless sensor network through an energy management circuit, and this process has been successfully demonstrated through experiments.…”

“…Devices in SHSs are vulnerable to energy theft, particularly passive devices. There are many solutions for energy attacks, such as optimizing energy consumption, confusing energy generation, energy regeneration, electromagnetic energy collection [72] and magnetic field energy collection based on indoor power lines [73]. Addressed to energy savings, Zungeru et al [74] proposed a secure energy exchange system based on wireless communication and energy self-collection.…”
