“…LMM is preferred when the dependent variable is measured repeatedly across a variety of scenarios as this allows the researchers to control for potential correlations between different scenarios. Additional details on this method's relevance for our study are provided in Appendix A, but it applies in our study because the same participant is being asked to assess fake news believability of 17 distinct scenarios [ 111 , 112 , 50 ]. In addition, we relied on repeated-measures design because summing up information from different scenarios into an index would limit the amount of variability and may in turn lose information regarding individual differences.…”

“…To our best knowledge, IS scholars have not yet investigated this particular issue in relation to individuals’ cultural values. Even though, a recent study that focused on internet-mediated social networks established a link between espoused national cultural values and their perception of what ought to be appropriate and inappropriate social network behaviors (Gupta, 2021 ; Gupta et al, 2018 ). Furthermore, prior IS research also identified the role of espoused national cultural values in explaining various IS-oriented phenomena, such as individuals’ technology acceptance (Srite & Karahanna, 2006 ), internet shopping behaviors (Sia et al, 2009 ), continued intention to use mobile applications (Hoehle et al, 2015 ), internet security behaviors (Chen & Zahedi, 2016 ), and reactions in online reviews (Hong & Kim, 2016 ).…”
