This qualitative study, utilizing the dimensional analysis approach, was conducted to generate a substantive theory about the description and meaning of functional health from the perspectives of older Anglo and Latino women. Through focus group interviews with older Anglo and Latino women and data analysis, the investigators learned that the women's perceptions of functional health were vastly different. As planners and providers, we usually are trained in a health culture that is predominantly based on White, middle-class values. This ethnocentrism can act as a barrier leading us to disregard the notion that concepts such as health are not universally perceived. Findings from this study may enable us to achieve a closer approximation of the real experiences of our clients and to sensitize us to different world views.

Bu çalışma yaşlılık dönemi psikolojik özellikleri ve moral hakkında yayınlanmış çalışmaların gözden geçirilmesi ve çalışmalardan elde edilen verilerin sistematik biçimde incelenmesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir.GEREÇ VE YÖNTEMLER: Çalışma, Ocak 1994 -Aralık 2012 tarihleri arasında konuyla ilgili yayınlar taranarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu amaçla internet erişim ağı üzerinden yaşlılık, moral, psikoloji anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak Pubmed, Türk Atıf Dizini ve Türk Psikiyatri Dizini arama motorlarında tarama yapılmış ve konuyla ilgili ulusal ve uluslararası 26 yayın araştırma kapsamında değerlendirilmiştir.

Social support is a very important aspect of debilitating diseases. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a common disabling disease that impairs a patient's quality of life and affects a patient's environment. The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) is used to measure the perception of the sufficiency of social support for individuals. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship of the MSPSS to the Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI), age and gender in patients with OSAS. In this study, 183 subjects with a diagnosis of OSAS were enrolled. Patients were evaluated with the MSPSS in terms of age, gender and polysomnography results. According to the results of this study, the MSPSS has found to be higher in men than in women with OSAS and higher in moderate-severe OSAS than in mild OSAS. The MSPSS can be an important indicator of how patients cope with the disease.
