“…It has been observed that oxidative and inflammatory cell damage induced by glutamate in mouse hippocampal neuronal cell culture was reversed by the overexpression of selenoprotein H in these cells [ 158 ]. Similar results were obtained when pretreating mouse cortical neurons exposed to 3-nitropropionic (inducer of oxidative damage) acid with sodium selenite, where the latter protected these cells against free radical damage and stimulated glutathione peroxidase activity [ 159 ]. It has also been observed that selenoproteins prevent or suppress the activation of NLRP3 inflammasomes by removing multiple free radicals [ 160 ].…”

“…Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are characteristic features of some neurodegenerative pathologies, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and Huntington's disease (HD). It is worth mentioning that over the past years the potential application of antioxidants in the treatment of these diseases has been explored [96,97]. In this context, the role of Na 2 SeO 3 in the oxidative stress events of the neurotoxicity caused by paraquat (PQ) has been investigated due to its known antioxidant properties.…”

“…3-nitropropionic acid (3-NPA), a mitochondrial complex II inhibitor, is mainly used in neurological research. Its effect on ovarian function has not been reported and requires further exploration [ 4 ]. SIRT1 was reported to have a strong correlation with ovarian reserve and could be a marker of ovarian aging [ 5 ].…”
