Soft X-ray Emission Spectroscopy at ESRF Beamline 26 Based on a Helical Undulator

Abstract: A new soft X-ray spectrograph for X-ray emission spectroscopy excited by synchrotron radiation is presented. The apparatus is now installed on beamline 26 at the ESRF in Grenoble. A brief description of the beamline is given and then several components of the spectrograph are covered in more detail. Results of experiments performed both with direct non-monochromated undulator radiation and with monochromated radiation are reported.

“…The device presented below has been realized for the AXES spectrometer 15 ; after several refurbishments 16,22 this instrument, based on a variable line-density spherical grating and a CCD detector, has at present a resolving power E/ΔE = 4000-4500 (at 930 eV), corresponding to about 3500 when combined with the beamline monochromator. As shown in Fig.…”

“…i) A pilot experiment done with the AXES spectrometer 15,16 at the beamline ID08 of the ESRF, which has led to unique and important results. The equipment is finalized to the Cu-L 3 edge (930 eV) but is sufficiently tunable to cover Cu in different compounds and different ionization states.…”

“…The hole concentration was optimized by annealing the samples in N 2 flow. The RIXS measurements were performed with the AXES spectrometer at the beamline ID08 of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) [32]. We used the incident photon energy of ∼931 eV, at the maximum of the Cu L 3 absorption peak (2p 3/2 → 3d transition).…”

“…[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] In recent years, new high resolution soft X-ray spectrometers based on varied line spacing gratings have been build. [20][21][22][23][24][25] Some are even able to resolve vibrational states in the spectrum. 26 Yet, they are huge setups with detector arm length of up to 5 m. 22 Future spectrometer projects are even planned with detector arm length up to 15 m with the aim to reach higher resolving power.…”
