Show more

“…For the computerized analysis of pharyngeal transit times, software was utilized to record the time in milliseconds through the analysis of the frames on video and swallow seriography (35) . A frame-by-frame analysis of the test was performed and the beginning and end of the bolus passage through the pharyngeal phase were marked, in order to establish the duration of the phase by counting the frames.…”

“…As of the end of last century, videofluoroscopy swallow studies with the use of software started to appear, thus also enabling quantitative analysis, such as measuring bolus transit time as one of the swallowing phases (16,35) .…”

“…The determination of the GER degree could be done with IEUS, although not as specifically as the UGIS does, by means of a comparative study between these two techniques. The GER degree obtained at UGIS for each patient would be compared with the diameter and the time of opening of the intraabdominal esophagus during the GER observed at the IEUS (20,21) in the same patient. After this analysis the GER degree could be inferred only with IEUS.…”

“…The following parameters were considered in the VFSE qualitative analysis: presence or absence of oral incoordination, labial sphincter sealing incompetence, oral residue, posterior oral spillage, and laryngotracheal penetration and aspiration (6) . Quantitative temporal analysis of swallowing was conducted using specific software (7) to measure, in milliseconds (ms), the total oral transit time (TOTT) and pharyngeal transit time (PTT). For both the qualitative and quantitative parameters, the criteria were considered as described in Chart 2.…”
