Soil physical properties affected by biochar addition at different plant phaenological phases. Part I

Abstract: Soil amendment usage can substantially modify soil structural and hydraulic properties, with the aim of improving its water, air and nutrition management along with crop growth. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the physical changes in soil through different plant growing stages caused by biochar addition to silt loam soil. This research focused on changes in structural stability, and macro-and microaggregate stability. The soils were amended with different amounts of biochar (control with 0,… Show more

“…Soil physical and chemical parameters were retrieved from earlier studies [2,8,50] and used to investigate possible connections between the physical, chemical, and biological (i.e., mycorrhizal fungi hyphae growth and glomalin (EEG-GRSP) production) interactions. The correlations between colonization of mycorrhizal fungi (M%), arbuscularity (A%), glomalin production at different soil fraction sizes, and soil physicochemical parameters of the treatments are presented in Figures 7 and 8.…”

“…Soil structure governs the storage and transport of water and nutrients and heat regimes (Horel et al, 2019), and thus determines crop and vegetation performance (Miedema, 1997). Composted organic matter has direct and indirect effects on soil structure (Cahyono et al, 2020;Ghezzehei, 2012;Kranz et al, 2020;Or et al, 2021).…”

“…The BC was made by pyrolysing grain husks and paper fibre sludge at 450-500 • C for 20 min; 60% of the particles had a size of below 2 mm (Sonnenerde Gmbh, Austria). In the <2 mm fraction the particle size distribution was <6.6 µm: 1.57%, 6.6-52.5 µm: 13.9%, 52.5-2000 µm: 84.52% [24]. The compost, which included green waste and sewage sludge from municipalities, was produced by FCC Hungary Inc., Gyál (Table 1).…”
