“…This could be attributed to release of weakly bound nutrients of biochar into the soil solution which became available for plant uptake thus leading to the decline in EC towards the end of the experiment (Chintala et al, 2013). Similar studies have observed an increase in soil EC with biochar application at the onset of the experiment (Chintala et al, 2013;Shah et al, 2017). Studies by Abu-Zahra and Tahboub (2008), however, reported no significant changes in soil pH and soluble salts concentrations (EC) at the end of the experiment and attributed this lack of changes in soil pH to the high buffering capacity of the soil based on its high carbonate content (22-28%).…”
