Sol-Gel Materials for Electrochemical Applications: Recent Advances

Abstract: This review article emphases on the modern approaches to the types of sol-gel materials that are beneficial for electrochemistry, monitored by a report of recent advances in the numerous fields of sol-gel electrochemistry. Modified electrodes for sensors and supercapacitors as well as anti-corrosion are described. Sol-gel synthesis expands the capabilities of technologists to obtain highly porous, homogeneous, and hybrid thin-film materials for supercapacitor electrode application. The widespread materials are… Show more

“…The method is widely used in biomedical applications related to the synthesis of inorganic blends and polymers. Sol-gel technology involves the transition of a liquid colloidal solution into a compact threedimensional structure; in short, a gel is obtained from a sol [63][64][65]. Ghedini et al [66] developed a system for the controlled release of a drug in the form of antibiotics using the sol-gel method.…”

“…Therefore, these electrodes can be fabricated with carbon from different forms and origins, namely glassy carbon, graphite, carbon fiber, boron-doped-diamond, screen printed, and carbon paste. The type of carbon utilized determines the electrochemical characteristics of the resulting electrodes [22,23].…”

“…Currently, methods for preparing FeGaB films include pulsed laser deposition (PLD) [10][11][12], the sol-gel method [13][14][15], and magnetron sputtering deposition [16][17][18]. Films prepared by PLD technology exhibit controllable thickness and smooth surface morphology, but the coating area is small and the deposition rate is low.…”
