In this study, we use the data of Polish typical meteorological years and 15 transposition models to obtain global solar irradiance on sloped surfaces to calculate solar irradiance on external building partitions, solar gains, heating demands, and primary nonrenewable energy for heating and domestic hot water (EPH+W) of two typical Polish residential buildings, each for two variants in five locations. In relation to TMYs, annual solar gains were lower by −31% and −36% on average in a single and multifamily building, respectively, and the annual heating demands increased by 9% and 16%, respectively. Consequently, averaged EPH+W in relation to TMYs rose by 1.4 kWh/m2 and 4.5 kWh/m2, respectively. The mean differences between TMYs and the new method from the recently published EN-ISO 52010 standard for test Building 1 were 1.6 and 1.2 kWh/m2, for Variants 1 and 2, respectively. Similarly, for test Building 2, the mean differences were 5.1 kWh/m2 and 3.9 kWh/m2, respectively. This means that the simulation model that is chosen has a visible impact on a building’s energy performance indicators and its rating without any changes in the physical structure and use of the building.

Estimation of solar energy generation in the integrated power systems must be performed for power system the long-term planning and the short-term control. Irradiation is one of the main factors affecting the out coming energy of solar system. Hence, investigation of solar irradiation on the horizontal surface helps in proper and efficient implementation of solar energy system. Capturing much more energy from the irradiation, by the Photovoltaic (PV) cells, results in enhancement of out coming energy of PV station. This paper is going to study the impact of implementation two topologies for energy harvesting in PV stations. The topologies are as follows: (a) PV station with multilevel boost converters and inverters, (b) PV station with only multilevel inverters. Studies have been performed on 80 KW PV test station, located in Kabudrahang, Iran. The comparison between the results demonstrates much more solar energy harvesting in the case of applying multilevel converters in the output of PV arrays. Simulation results show the promising result of the proposed topology in harvesting maximum power from a PV station.

The capture of the solar resource by means of photovoltaic systems to transform it into electricity depends on the solar irradiance during the day and climatic factors, the latter being of great importance. Aiming at evaluating and determining the occurrences of extreme solar irradiance and the Peak Sun Hours (HSP) in varied climatic conditions of the altiplano at 3812 meters above sea level, at the level of Lake Titicaca (Puno-Peru) and its effects on the photovoltaic system. The solar irradiance measurement was performed with two short-circuit photovoltaic modules each, where the Isc short-circuit current was connected to a current transducer to convert it into an analog electrical signal processed and stored every second in a programmable Logic Controller High precision (PLC). The results show the occurrence of extreme solar irradiance exceeding 1000 W / m2 and the solar constant for a few seconds on partially cloudy days, determining that the HSP is above 6 kWh / m2 / d and its effects on the photovoltaic system. Finally, in the Puno Altiplano, over irradiance is caused by the interaction of the clouds around the sun and the transitory presence of rain in short periods of time that affects the electrical protection system of a photovoltaic system.
