Solar Lighting Technologies for Highway Green Rest Areas in China: Energy Saving Economic and Environmental Evaluation

Abstract: In this paper, taking Lushan West Sea highway green rest area in Jiangxi Province of China as the case study, the suitable types, applicability, advantages, and effective methods of solar lighting technologies for highway rest area were determined based on the analysis of characteristics of highway green rest area. It was proved that solar lighting technologies including the natural light guidance system, solar LED lighting, and maximizing natural light penetration were quite suitable for highway rest area in … Show more

“…Based on the sunny and cloudy condition in spring in Hohhot, the average luminance effects comparison of the solar optical fiber lighting with LED lighting in the central line of the tunnel was made in Figure 9. It could be seen in Figure 9 that the average luminance of solar optical fiber lighting in tunnel threshold zone in daytime was 181.31 cd/m 2 at minimum, which could well meet the basic design demand of 83.47 cd/m 2 [21].…”

“…Lights powered by PV facilities have been used for lighting [43], traffic lights, and traffic studs [31] (see Figure 2b,d,e) and they are usually used on occasions without convenient access to grid electricity and are integrated with battery energy storage systems to manage energy consumption. Installation of PV facilities on noise/wind barriers has a long history, and the first application in Europe was reported to be the one in the municipality of Domat/Ems, Switzerland in 1989 [31].…”

“…Improving the application level of the technology and product of high-efficiency energy-saving equipment, promote energy-saving technology system integration and demonstration applications and promote the rapid development of high-efficiency energy-saving industry (Dong et al, 2015). The report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that we need to focus on the development of the "Belt and Road," attach equal importance to "bringing in" and "going global," follow the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, strengthening the openness and cooperation of innovation capabilities, so as to form an open pattern featuring interconnected land and sea areas and mutual benefits between east and west (Qin et al, 2015). Faced with the globalization of the energysaving market, more and more energy-saving enterprises have adjusted their development strategies and turned their attention to the international market.…”
