Somatic embryogenesis from mature zygotic embryos of commercial passionfruit (Passiflora edulis Sims) genotypes

Abstract: Mature zygotic embryos of three genotypes of Passiflora edulis Sims, including 'FB-100', 'FB-200', and 'FB-300' were incubated on a Murashige and Skoog (MS) (1962) medium supplemented with different concentrations (18.1-114.8 lM) of 2,4-diclorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 4.4 lM of 6-benzyladenine (BA). MS basal medium and MS with BA induced germination of P. edulis embryos. The highest frequencies of embryogenic calli were observed when explants were incubated on MS medium supplemented with 72.4 lM 2,4-D an… Show more

“…Similar characteristics were also observed in embryogenic cultures of other species, such as Medicago arborea (Martin et al 2000), Passiflora cincinnata (Silva et al 2009) and P. edulis (Pinto et al 2011), as well as C. papaya cv. Co-7 (Anandan et al 2012).…”

“…Lobster Claw Two (Ulisses et al, 2011) e em maracujá -Passiflora edulis Sims (Pinto et al, 2012), estando intimamente ligados aos fatores supracitados, bem como às condições de cultivo e ao tipo de explante utilizado.…”

“…ANTOGNONI et al (2007) report the success of 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) and KIN for callus induction on different species of genus Passiflora. PINTO et al (2011) also report success in obtaining embryogenic callus of P. edulis with a combination of 2,4-D and BAP (6-benzylaminopurine). KAUR & KOTHARI (2004) studied the effect of PIC/KIN in the callus induction on kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum L.) and reported the increase in calli fresh weight was directly proportional with the PIC concentration in the culture medium.…”
