Abstract:Somatostatin may inhibit gastric exocrine functions independent of blockade of gastrin secretion. In order to further investigate this suppressive effect, somatostatin derivatives were injected to cats bearing a cannulated gastric fistula under pentagastrin stimulation. Results showed that somatostatin-14 was more potent than somatostatin-28 in this particular model. Analogues with substituted residues exhibited a variable spectrum of actions on hormone release and gastric function. A cyclic pentapeptide was d… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
