Some comments on spacelike minimal surfaces with null polygonal boundaries in AdS m

Abstract: We discuss some geometrical issues related to spacelike minimal surfaces in AdS m with null polygonal boundaries at conformal infinity. In particular for AdS 4 , two holomorphic input functions for the Pohlmeyer reduced system are identified. This system contains two coupled differential equations for two functions α(z,z) and β(z,z), related to curvature and torsion of the surface. Furthermore, we conjecture that, for a polynomial choice of the two holomorphic functions, the relative positions of their zeros e… Show more

“…In fact, to make this choice we will make use of the Virasoro constraints of the theory. This has been explained in detail in previous papers [18,19,20,21,22,24]. Instead of repeating the whole discussion, we will present a slightly more abstract and algebraic version here.…”

“…For the case with non-zero stress tensor this was described in [18,21,22]. In the particular case that is going to be of interest to us, which is the SO(2,4)/SO (1,5) or AdS 5 sigma model this was done in [19,24,15]. Since we do not want to repeat those derivations here, let us give a more abstract perspective on it.…”

“…one finds precisely the set of equations (A.8), (A.9) and (A.10) that arise in the coordinate formulation of the Pohlmeyer reduction of strings moving in AdS space (see, e.g., [46,52,53] and appendix A).…”

“…Therefore, to construct such actions in this Pohlmeyer reduction for space-like world-sheets alternative gauge-fixings need to be used. However, in general it should be possible to find such gauge-fixings achieving the same effect as the imaginary rotations of the fields β, U , V and X described above (see, for example[53,55]).…”
