“…Cancer cells were subjected to an antitumor agent or sonochemotherapy (the combination). Insonation was performed as described previously [13,14]. The effect of the sequence of administration of a drug and ultrasound on the therapeutic effect was investigated in 3AO cells; thus insonation was performed either before or after drug administration.…”

“…CIs indicated synergisms in HO-8910PM cells when cisplatin was ≥ 2.0 μg/ml or paclitaxel ≥ 18 μg/ml. This manifested that ultrasound synergized chemotherapy only when the level of an anticancer agent reached a threshold [14]. However, this event did not occur in 3AO, SKOV 3 /ADR and HO-8910 cells.…”

“…The spatial average 138 temporal average intensity was 2.0 W/cm 2 in continuous waves 139 with a frequency of 1.0 MHz. The duration of exposure for 140 in vitro trials was 60 s. Such a level of insonation did not cause 141 cytotoxicity (cell death and DNA damage) and not lead to obvious 142 temperature increase in the cell suspension (i.e., <37°C during 143 insonation) [17,18]. 144 The setup was also used to conduct in vivo experiments, and the 145 exposure time was 10 min.…”

“…Cell suspensions were insonated using a focused ultrasound 132 device (Inst. Acoust., Nanjing University, Nanjing, China) as 133 described previously [17]. A 60 mm-diameter transducer with a 134 focal length of 70 mm, was mounted at the bottom of a tank filled 135 with degassed water.…”
