The thermal stability of the unmodified, aminated, and thiocarbamoylated polysiloxanes has been studied. The siloxane matrix is stable in the temperature range up to 800°C. For the first time, mass spectrom etry has been applied to the analysis of the composition of the gaseous products of thermal decomposition of the studied polysiloxanes. It has been shown that, in the process of thermal decomposition, the terminal func tional groups are detached and oxidized. Water, ammonia, nitrogen, carbon, and sulfur (in the case of thio urea modified sorbent) oxides are formed predominantly. The quantitative removal of functional groups dur ing heating up to 800°C has been confirmed by IR spectroscopy. A mechanism of thermal decomposition of polysiloxane xerogels has been proposed. It has been found that adsorption of platinum increases the thermal stability of the samples.

Hybrid organo-inorganic materials produced by chemical modifi cation of polysiloxanes fi nd wide use due to the unique properties of the silica gel matrix and the possibility of obtaining materials with required properties by using an appropriate organic modifi er. One of the most important applications of these materials is their use as sorbents for concentration and recovery of metal ions from aqueous solutions [1,[5][6][7][8].Modifi cation of various polymeric materials with dithiooxamide (DTO) have been actively studied in recent years, which is due to its excellent complexing properties [9], in particular, those for noble metal ions owing to the simultaneous presence of nitrogen and sulfur ions in its structure. It is known that polysaccharides of Pseudochoricystis ellipsoidea weeds [10], cellulose [11] and chitosan are used as natural polymeric matrices. The sorbents obtained demonstrated a high sorption affi nity and selectivity with respect to Pd(II) and Pt(IV) ions, whereas the adsorption of simultaneously present Cu(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Fe(III) ions was insignifi cant. The sorption capacity for Pd(II) ions at pH 2 was 3.24 mmol g -1 at a concentration of grafted groups of rubeanic acid of 0.4 mmol g -1 [12]. The maximum sorption capacity for Cu(II) and Cd(II) ions at pH 6 was 0.058 and 0.072 mmol g -1 , respectively, at a concentration of complexing groups of 0.150 mmol g -1 [11].Use of a synthetic polymer, polystyrene, makes it possible to substantially raise the sorption capacity for ions of 3d-metals. The maximum sorption capacity at pH 6 for Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions was 0.97 and 0.12 mmol g -1 , respectively, at a concentration of 1.0 mmol g -1 of grafted groups of rubeanic acid. Also known is the use of C 60 fullerene containing dithiooxamide groups for recovery of trace amounts of copper(II) ions [14].The modifi cation of siloxane polymeric matrices with dithiooxamide is represented in the literature by only two examples [15,16]. The authors used a block-copolymer produced by hydrolysis of aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) on the surface of porous silica, which was then treated with rubeanic acid. A common shortcoming of sorbents of this kind is the low concentration of dithiooxamide groups (0.08-0.24 mmol g -1 ) and the resulting poor sorption capacity. The maximum capacity for Pd(II) and Pt(II) ions was 0.198 and 0.103 mmol g -1 , respectively [16].Abstract-Reaction of reamidation of rubeanic acid with aminopropyl polysiloxane was systematically studied. It was found that the given type of transformations make it possible to obtain a derivative of aminopropyl polysiloxane with surface dithiooxamide groups in a concentration of up to 0.78 mmol g -1 at a total degree of substitution of up to 0.25. The composition and structure of the derivatives obtained were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and method of low-temperature adsorption of nitrogen.
