Sorting nexin 17 increases low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 4 membrane expression: A novel mechanism of acetylcholine receptor aggregation in myasthenia gravis

Abstract: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is characterized by autoimmune damage to the postsynaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) with impaired postsynaptic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) aggregation. Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 4 (LRP4) plays an important role in AChR aggregation at endplate membranes via the Agrin–LRP4–muscle-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (MuSK) cascade. Sorting nexin 17 (SNX17) regulates the degradation and recycling of various internalized membrane proteins. However, wh… Show more

“…The body weight of the rats was measured twice a week, and the lennon score was recorded. The lennon score was evaluated using the criteria described previously (41,42), and the assigned lennon scores were as follows: Grade 0, no weakness; grade 1, fatigability or weakness only observed after exercise; grade 2, clinical signs of weakness present before exercise, including hunched posture or head down; grade 3, severe muscle weakness with dyspnea/apnea or moribund state; grade 4, death. intermediate signs in rats were categorized into grades 0.5, 1.5, 2.5 or 3.5, accordingly.…”
