Abstract:The effect of space charge in bunches stored for many synchrotron oscillations combined with the nonlinear resonances in a storage ring may create a particle diffusion to large amplitudes and eventually create unwanted beam loss. We review and discuss the mechanism which creates beam loss with the focus on how to estimate the number of particles that will be crossed by the stable fixed lines generated by a coupled resonance and space charge.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
