Spatial Adjacency Analysis of Citygml Buildings via 3d Topological Data Structure

Abstract: Abstract. Adjacencies between objects provides the most basic connectivity information of objects. This connectivity information provides support for more complex 3D spatial analysis such as 3D navigation, nearest neighbour and others. In 3D models, the connectivity information is maintained by building a comprehensive 3D topology. As the international standard for 3D city models, CityGML employs a simple XML links mechanism that references related entities to each other as a means of maintaining topological i… Show more

“…The adoption of JSON encoding has reduced the size of CityJSON storage significantly [33] and with better interoperability capability [34]. However, both data models are limited in terms of entities relations descriptions or in other words adjacencies among objects [35]. For the application in the real world, CityGML possesses Application Domain Extension (ADE), to extend the core data model of CityGML to allow the addition of more application-specific attributes.…”

“…3D GIS allows a more immersive visualization of any object in three dimensions granting a better understanding of a physical object. Management of building assets information, 3D modelling, spatial queries such as 3D nearest neighbor queries [44] and topological queries [35]. Besides that, precise visualization is also possible with the creation of 3D GIS [45].…”

“…By integrating 3D GIS and BIM, valuable data enrichment can be achieved from both platforms, leading to improved analysis results. This integration facilitates the utilization of techniques like nearest neighbors queries [16] and the incorporation of essential topological information [17], further enhancing the depth and accuracy of the analyses performed. Integration of 3D GIS and BIM allows for data enrichment from both platforms which can enhance the analysis result.…”

“…The models developed in [12,13] provide geometric information based on CityGML, and the topological relationships of indoor-adjacent spaces in this model are represented by CityGML XLinks. These XLinks form an explicit way of modeling connectivities which can conflict with possible underlying connectivities between polygons in the model.…”
