Spatial and Temporal Variation of Wideband Indoor Channels

Abstract: Extensive studies of the impact of temporal variations induced by people on the characteristics of indoor wideband channels are reported. Singular Value Decomposition Prony algorithm has been used to compute the impulse response from measured channel transfer functions. The high multipath resolution of the algorithm has allowed a detailed assessment of the shapes of individual multipath clusters and their variation in time and space in indoor channels. Large- and small-scale analyses show that there is a signi… Show more

“…It can be seen that the system can clearly detect the evolution of the channel response over small distances. A good understanding of small-scale indoor channel variation is key to the effective delivery of wireless high data rate services [21,22].…”

“…The description of the mutual dependency between the large-scale fading (LSF) and small-scale fading (SSF) as well as spatial and temporal characteristics of this wireless channel (cross correlation properties) is important for the implementation of realistic network level simulators for wideband mobile communication systems in indoor environments [17,18]. The correlation properties for indoor propagation channel have been characterized based on wideband measurements [19][20][21][22][23]. The cross correlation of the LSF and SSF parameters of two separated subchannels, the autocorrelation of the LSF parameters of one single subchannel, and the correlation of the SSF parameters of the PDP for an ultrawideband system have been analyzed in [23].…”

“…The widespread use of smart-phones has also accelerated growth in high data rate applications. Significant studies have been carried out in short-range indoor environment [1,2]. However studies in short-range outdoor environment where most of the mobile devices are used have received relatively little attention.…”
