Spatial variations of pulmonary tuberculosis prevalence co-impacted by socio-economic and geographic factors in People’s Republic of China, 2010

Abstract: BackgroundThe report of the fifth national tuberculosis (TB) epidemiological survey in P. R. China, 2010, roughly showed that pulmonary TB (PTB) prevalence was higher in western China than in central and eastern China. However, accurately estimating the continuous spatial variations of PTB prevalence and clearly understanding factors impacting on spatial variations of PTB prevalence are important for allocating limited resources of national TB programme (NTP) in P. R. China.MethodsUsing ArcGIS Geostatistical W… Show more

“…Although the relationship between risk of suffering PTB and residing in localities of low socio-economic conditions has been extensively described, 4,5 as well as the patterns of geographical variability in relation to prevention of PTB associated to socioeconomic determinants (life expectancy, educational level, income, among others), 6,7 insufficient attention has being paid to analysis of the PTB situation in socially vulnerable areas.…”

“…The prevalence of TB slowly decreased between 2000 and 2010 [4]. However, due to population growth, the overall number of TB cases continues to increase and there are differences in prevalence between the east, central, and western regions of China [5].…”
