The probability of losing vulnerable companions, such as children or older ones, in large gatherings is high, and their tracking is challenging. We proposed a novel integration of face-recognition algorithms with a soft voting scheme, which was applied, on low-resolution cropped images of detected faces, in order to locate missing persons in a challenging large-crowd gathering. We considered the large-crowd gathering scenarios at Al Nabvi mosque Madinah. It is a highly uncontrolled environment with a low-resolution-images data set gathered from moving cameras. The proposed model first performs real-time face-detection from camera-captured images, and then it uses the missing person’s profile face image and applies well-known face-recognition algorithms for personal identification, and their predictions are further combined to obtain more mature prediction. The presence of a missing person is determined by a small set of consecutive frames. The novelty of this work lies in using several recognition algorithms in parallel and combining their predictions by a unique soft-voting scheme, which in return not only provides a mature prediction with spatio-temporal values but also mitigates the false results of individual recognition algorithms. The experimental results of our model showed reasonably good accuracy of missing person’s identification in an extremely challenging large-gathering scenario.

A considerable amount of time is wasted in the process of searching for a missing item and consequently, human schedules are disrupted. This study aimed to design and implement a web-based system for matching losers and finders of personal items using the waterfall model. The modelling language employed in this work was Unified Modeling Language (UML). The server-side was built using the Node.js JavaScript framework to provide backend logic to process information from the client-side and MongoDB database. The client-side was made using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), cascading style sheet (CSS) and JavaScript. The system was evaluated using alpha and beta testing by module testing and getting feedback from users based on some predefined criteria. The developed system was able to match lost items with efficiency and functionality of 80% and 77%, respectively.

The term IoT technology is associated with many fields, including scientific, commercial, industrial, health, transportation and other fields, which became a necessity of daily life across all segments of society. Artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, data science and big data are among the most prominent fields of technologies in the modern era of e-knowledge, which are increasingly being relied on in many areas of our life. This research is considered very special and urgent affecting around 20% of the humanities, i.e., Muslim people, whom try to be selected to perform Islamic rituals every year. Given this importance of applying and adapting technologies to serve Hajj and Umrah performers, it is necessary to conduct an analytical study for the technologies and their applications that have been applied in the Hajj and Umrah system. The surveyed studies have been classified, according to their targeted services (focus area), into four main branches, including studies of the two holy mosques and the holy sites, studies of the pre-arrival visitors, housing and services studies, and transportation and crowd management studies. The classified studies were analyzed according to research field, research instrument, statistical method, nature of statistical data, data collection tools, and research citations. The paper outcome opens novel research practical directions selected based on holistic overview of the current technologies analytical survey, which is essential to be considered to improve Hajj and Umrah services coping with today’s technology, in addition to discussing other open issues that need further deep research.
