Spatio-temporal pattern changes of land space in Hengduan Mountains during 1990–2015

Abstract: Hengduan Mountains offer land space for a variety of ecological services. However, the sustainable development and management of land space has been challenged by increased human activities in recent years. This paper performs the spatial pattern analysis of the quantitative and structural changes of various landscapes at different altitudes, and uses the land use data in 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2015 to reveal how various land patterns have changed. The results show that, within the production-living-ecological s… Show more

“…The implementation of these policies has promoted the development and use of DFWSL to turn unavailable land into useful land resources. At present, in response to the initiative of rural revitalization [66] and the country's poverty alleviation policies, the development and use of DFWSL is approaching the goal of building a nation that boasts "productive and compact producing spaces, comfortable and cozy living spaces, and picturesque ecological scenes" [67].…”

“…China has the widest distribution of mountainous regions in the world, and mountains, plateaus, and hills account for ~65% of the Chinese territory [ 34 ]. Mountainous areas account for 94.7% of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River [ 35 ], and represent a very fragile ecosystem that is seriously threatened by increasingly intensive and unsustainable urban development and construction [ 36 ].…”

“…Landscape multi-functionality and land multi-functionality tend to have some overlap in the research, with the focus on the ecosystem service functions, and landscape used as a tool for research on sustainable surface structures and spatial structures most often measured using the landscape pattern index (Wu, 2013;Zhou et al, 2019). Multi-functionality and overlapping functions have always been key issues plaguing functional classifications of production, living and ecological spaces (Shi and Zhang, 2018;Zou et al, 2018). Existing studies on production, living and ecological spaces include those on urban agglomerations, rural areas and river basins at various scales, such as countries, provinces, cities, counties, villages or towns, and with the primary focus on function identification, classification systems and function evaluations.…”
