Spatiotemporal Analysis of Multichannel EEG: CARTOOL

Abstract: This paper describes methods to analyze the brain's electric fields recorded with multichannel Electroencephalogram (EEG) and demonstrates their implementation in the software CARTOOL. It focuses on the analysis of the spatial properties of these fields and on quantitative assessment of changes of field topographies across time, experimental conditions, or populations. Topographic analyses are advantageous because they are reference independents and thus render statistically unambiguous results. Neurophysiolog… Show more

“…driven right leg (CMS-DRL) ground. EEG data pre-processing and analyses were conducted using Cartool software (https://sites.google.com/ site/fbmlab/cartool; Brunet et al, 2011). The main interest of the study was to examine to what extent the level of relevance and saliency of peripheral distracters affected early visual processing, uncontaminated by response-related activity.…”

“…EEG data pre-processing and analyses were conducted using Cartool software (http://sites.google.com/ site/fbmlab/cartool; Brunet et al, 2011). EEG epochs from 100 msec pre-to 300 msec post-stimulus onset were averaged, for each participant, for all Go stimuli and separately for the first four blocks (Beginning condition, BEG) and the four last blocks (End condition, END) of the SST task.…”

“…Offline analyses were performed with Cartool software (Brunet et al, 2011). The raw EEG data were first down-sampled to 512 Hz to reduce computational load and bandpass filtered (0.31-40 Hz, Notch 50 Hz and DC removed).…”

“…Global electric field analyses were carried out using the Cartool software (Brunet et al, 2011). By contrast to local, single-electrode level analyses of the ERP, the analysis of the global field power (GFP) and of the ERP topography (Global Map Dissimilarity, GMD) is referenceindependent and enables disentangling if the observed effects follow from change in responses gain and/or change in the configuration of brain networks across experimental conditions (e.g.…”
