“…vigilance and cleaning). A large area of sunbeds and umbrellas can be found arranged in pairs occupying the entire northern extension of the beach and creating areas of wind shade and deflation surfaces behind them (Hernández-Calvento, 2002;Sanromualdo-Collado et al, 2021;Alonso Bilbao et al, 2001). In 2003, the Insular Plan for Land Management regulated and reduced their use and the area they could occupy.…”

“…These actions consist primarily of urban construction, parking, beach access structures, camping and other recreational activities (Curr et al, 2000). Several beach services, such as sunbed and umbrella rental or beach cleaning also affect the dynamics of the beach-dune systems (Roig- Munar et al, 2012;Sanromualdo-Collado et al, 2021). Many similar dune systems in different parts of the world have been affected by foredune or vegetation loss as a result of beach services (Liddle and Grieg-Smith, 1975), often leading to an increase in wind speed and a decrease in aeolian sedimentary transport to inner parts of the systems (Nordstrom, 2002;Jackson and Nordstrom, 2011).…”

“…Leka et al (2022) provide a load‐bearing index of tourism focused primarily on environmental dimensions, and highlight the need for specific tools to guide decision‐making. Sanromualdo‐Collado et al (2021) demonstrate the existence of relationships between tourism management decisions and ecological impacts on the territories with consequences on sustainability and development. Stavros et al (2016) recall that environmental impacts are related to environmental and social wealth.…”

“…This human pressure has induced environmental changes that have led to the deterioration of coastal aeolian sedimentary systems (Delgado‐Fernández et al, 2019; Jackson & Nordstrom, 2011; Paskoff, 1993). All of these as a result of intensive human actions with potential harmful effects linked to an urban‐touristic model of coastal dune systems which include, among others, recreational activities (Prisco et al, 2021; Sanromualdo‐Collado, García‐Romero, et al, 2021), urbanization and infrastructure construction (García‐Romero et al, 2019; Hernández‐Calvento et al, 2014; Salgado et al, 2021; Smith et al, 2017), and aggregate extraction (Fernández Montoni et al, 2014; Marrero‐Rodríguez, García‐Romero, Peña‐Alonso, et al, 2020; Marrero‐Rodríguez, García‐Romero, Sánchez‐García, et al, 2020). Thus, there has been a reduction in dune size (Hernández‐Calvento, 2006), increase in beach erosion processes (Marrero‐Rodríguez, Casamayor, et al, 2021), changes in species richness (Hernández‐Cordero et al, 2017), the introduction of invasive alien species and the creation of aeolian deflation zones (García‐Romero et al, 2019).…”
