“…British Petroleum (BP’s) (2022) report reveals that over the span of more than four decades, China’s consumption of coal has risen by an impressive 6.28-fold, and its carbon emissions have surged by a remarkable 6.42-fold. China’s carbon emissions accounted for 31.1% of the global total in 2021 (Li et al, 2021), and in 2022, the emissions decreased by 23 million tons, reaching a total of 11.477 billion tons (Zhao et al, 2023). The Chinese ISI released 574,000 tons of SO 2 , 1,114,000 tons of NOx, and 897,000 tons of particulate matter in 2020 (Zhu et al, 2022).…”

“…Pathway analysis is a statistical analysis method used to study complex causal relationships between variables. This method was first proposed by geneticist Sewall Wright and is mainly used in the fields of social sciences, biology, and economics [30,31]. The fundamental concept of pathway analysis is to visually represent the links between various factors by categorizing them into direct and indirect effects.…”

“…The Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is the most densely populated and economically developed region in China, as well as being a group of towns with the highest level of urbanization and the highest urban density [30]. However, the intensive exploitation of land resources has greatly increased the ecological risk in cities in the future [31], and the construction of the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou industrial bases has also made the contradiction between urbanization and environmental quality in the Yangtze River Delta increasingly acute [32]. Zhang et al conducted a study on the coordination between development intensity and habitat quality in the Yangtze River Delta integrated region and found that the development intensity index of the Yangtze River Delta integrated region increased from 0.3833 in 2005 to 0.7833 in 2020, and the habitat quality decreased from 0.5049 in 2005 to 0.4937, indicating that the contradiction between development intensity and habitat quality will further intensify, and the integration of eco-green and high-quality development will face a greater challenge [33].…”
