Specific Activation of Platelets from Patients Allergic to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus by Synthetic Peptides Derived from the Allergen Der p I

Abstract: Previous studies have shown that FcεRII-bearing platelets from patients with allergic disorders could be stimulated either by anti-human IgE antibodies or the relevant allergens to generate cytotoxic mediators. In this report, the reactivity of platelets from Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (D. pt) -sensitive patients to three Der p I-derived synthetic peptides (52–71,117–133 and 188–199) was investigated. The platelet stimulation observed in D. pt-sensitive patients was demonstrated to be allergen-specific and… Show more

“…This was a process mediated by IgE because these peptides did not stimulate platelets from healthy subjects or patients not allergic to Der p 1. 52 Furthermore, we have shown platelet chemotaxis to allergens to which patients with asthma are specifically sensitized and not to unrelated allergens. 2 The propagation of the immune response requires cell contact through receptor-ligand pairs between antigen-presenting and effecter cells of the adaptive immune response, such as T cells.…”

“…Patients allergic to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and exposed to synthetic peptides derived from the allergen Der p1 were shown to have activated platelets. This was a process mediated by IgE, which did not stimulate platelets from healthy subjects or non-Der p1-allergic patients, illustrating the specific activation of platelets to allergic stimuli [55].…”

“…Patients allergic to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p1) and exposed to synthetic peptides derived from the allergen Der p1 were shown to have activated platelets. This was a process mediated by IgE, that did not stimulate platelets from healthy subjects or non-Der p1 allergic patients, illustrating the specific activation of platelets to allergic stimuli (Cardot et al, 1992).…”
