Specific Energy: A New Approach to Ultrasound-assisted Extraction of Natural Colorants

Abstract: The demand for natural colorants has boosted the search for innovative technologies to obtain them. Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) is one of the new green techniques that has been studied due to its process advantages that include high yields, short extraction times and nonutilization of elevated temperatures. However, a nonstandardization of the UAE variables complicates comparisons and hinders progress in the studies of this topic. In this review, the focus is the verification and discussion of which U… Show more

“…First, 80 mg of each sample was weighed accurately into a 2 mL centrifuge tube, then 1.6 mL of 70% methanol solution was added precisely [33], and sealed with parafilm. Second, samples were extracted by ultrasonication for 60 min (40 kHz) at 25°C and centrifuged at 13,000 rpm/min for 15 min (4°C) [34]. Third, the supernatants were stored at 4°C, and filtered with a 0.22 μm microporous membrane filter before injection.…”

“…Firstly, 1 g of each sample was weighed accurately into a 50-ml conical flask with a stopper, and then 25 ml of 80% methanol solution added precisely and sealed with parafilm (Perez de Souza et al, 2019). Secondly, all the samples were extracted by ultrasonication for 40 min (40 kHz) at 30°C and then centrifuged at 13,000 rpm/min for 15 min (4°C; Martins Strieder et al, 2019). Thirdly, the supernatants were stored at 4°C and filtered with a 0.22-μm microporous membrane filter before injection.…”
