Specific IgG subclass antibody in rubella virus infections

Abstract: SUMMARYA solid-phase antigen enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed for the detection of rubella-specific IgG subclasses. For rubella-specific IgG, and IgG3 sera were quantitated in arbitrary units (au) by comparison with standard curves. A concentration of 3 au was taken as that indicating positivity for specific IgG1 and specific IgG3. No sera reactive for specific IgG2 and IgG4 have been found, and thus the assay reagents were controlled by testing dilutions of a standard calibrant serum co… Show more

“…7-DISCUSSION The adaptation to measure avidity of the antiglobulin ELISA for rubellaspecific IgG subclass antibody was straightforward, using the protein denaturant diethylamine as described by Devey et al (1988). We examined the avidity of specific IgG1 and IgG3 separately, as we had recently developed these assays and had demonstrated their validity (Thomas & Morgan-Capner, 1988). However, the method described here should be readily adaptable to an antiglobulin ELISA for total rubella-specific IgG or antibody, and we have confirmed this with a few sera.…”
