“…shown above in Table 1, the results obtained are similar to those published previously in oxy-fluorinated glasses based on tellurite [27,28], and also in aluminum silicate [16,17,[29][30][31][32][33][34].…”

“…Calcium oxide and/or fluoride (CaO/CaF 2 ) were used as glass modifiers because of their adequate contributions to the glass formation. Besides, in several well-known luminescent host matrices, it was reported that a rare-earth ions can be substituted for Ca 2+ cations [16][17][18][19], on the other hand the addition of fluorine compounds, such as BaF 2 or CaF 2 , to RE 3+ -doped tellurite glasses helped removing OH −groups and increased the RE 3+ ions fluorescence lifetime [20][21][22][23]. Among the rare-earth ions, Yb 3+ ones are known to display a very simple energy level diagram, constituted of only two spin-orbit multiplets, the degeneracy of which are split by the surrounding crystal field.…”

“…The broad bands around 870 are assigned to S-O stretching vibration. 21 The peaks around 721 cm −1 are due to the bending of B-O-B linkages in the borate network 22. The FTIR spectra observed are in good agreement with similar studies on borate glass system reported 23.…”

“…These weak bands are appearing due to the presence of sulphate ion in the glass. 22 Among four concentrations, a strong enhancement in the emission peaks at 573 nm in the yellow region was observed with the 0.07 mol% concentration and this effect is attributed to the concentration quenching. 28 The emission spectra results of these glasses are comparable to those reported.…”

“…Borate glass has been acknowledge as a good host for various rare-earth (RE) oxides among the traditional glass formers due to their strong glass formulation when compared with other conventional systems such as phosphates, germanates, vanadates and tellurite glass [1]. In addition, the glassy system is available easily, inexpensive, simple to prepare and a good host for a variety of elements [2].…”
