Spectrum-Aware Energy Efficiency Analysis in K-tier 5G HetNets

Abstract: In future multi-tier cellular networks, cognitive radio (CR) compatible with device-to-device (D2D) communication can be an aid to enhance system spectral efficiency (SE) and energy efficiency (EE). Users in proximity can establish a direct connection with D2D communication and bypass the base stations (BSs), thereby offloading the network infrastructure and providing EE improvement. We use stochastic geometry to model and analyze cognitive D2D communication underlying a multi-tier/multi-channel cellular netwo… Show more

“…Contrary to in-band D2D communication, it is infeasible to control interference using an out-band approach. Out-band Controlled communication and autonomous communication are two types of D2D communication [97]. In the former case, the cellular network is in charge of and controls the D2D communication.…”

“…However, [26] also does not consider co-tier interference. In [27], the stochastic geometry is employed to model and analyze a spectrum-aware energy efficiency HetNets cognitive D2D communication. However, NOMA is not included in the analysis carried out in [27].…”

“…In [27], the stochastic geometry is employed to model and analyze a spectrum-aware energy efficiency HetNets cognitive D2D communication. However, NOMA is not included in the analysis carried out in [27]. From the above literature, we can conclude that the tradeoff between SE and EE in NOMA HetNets has not been investigated sufficiently, where both co-tier and crosstier interference contribute to the PC problem.…”

“…Common single-node spectrum sensing algorithms include energy detection (ED) [10][11][12][13][14][15][16], matching filters [17][18][19][20], cyclic stationary detection [21][22][23], and compressive spectrum sensing [24,25], and they have different requirements, advantages, and disadvantages. The ED algorithm has low complexity, is based on a simple principle, and is easy to implement.…”
