Speech and voice analysis after near-total laryngectomy and tracheoesophageal puncture with implantation of Provox 2 prosthesis

Abstract: Vocal characteristics were compared in two groups of patients who were operated on due to laryngeal cancer. One group was composed of patients after near-total laryngectomy and the other after total laryngectomy followed by tracheoesophageal puncture with implantation of Provox 2 prosthesis. Acoustic analysis was carried out using the EZ Voice Plus program and included the following parameters: fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, harmonic to noise ratio, range of fundamental frequency, maximal phonation ti… Show more

“…1,12 In SCL patients, the results are in accordance with Makeieff et al's 11 research and slightly superior to the values found in other studies. 1,10 Jitter values are more deviated from normal in the SCL group, in both vowels-considering jitter <1% as normal.…”

“…It's known that the erygmophonic voice demonstrates perceptual qualities of hoarseness, short phonation duration, and low pitch and volume [ 1 ], all of which are indicators of aperiodicity in the voice signal. Perturbation analysis of this perceptual abnormality has been accomplished, with results confirming the severe irregularity of erygmophonic voices [ 1 3 ]. However, rehabilitated erygmophonic speech exhibits acceptable to good perceptual qualities.…”
