Spin fluctuation induced Weyl semimetal state in the paramagnetic phase of EuCd 2 As 2

Abstract: Weyl fermions as emergent quasiparticles can arise in Weyl semimetals (WSMs) in which the energy bands are nondegenerate, resulting from inversion or time-reversal symmetry breaking. Nevertheless, experimental evidence for magnetically induced WSMs is scarce. Here, using photoemission spectroscopy, we observe that the degeneracy of Bloch bands is already lifted in the paramagnetic phase of EuCd2As2. We attribute this effect to the itinerant electrons experiencing quasi-static and quasi–long-range ferromagnetic… Show more

“…We hope that our study of dynamical response functions will motivate experimental studies of the spin response of FA states, similar to experiments on bulk WSMs in Ref. [86]. Our work should also be useful for exploring nonlocal transport and optical properties of the FA surface states.…”

“…The symmetry above and below T N plays an essential role for the band degeneracy and the detailed dispersion evolution, as well as for the topology of the band structure. The comparison of the band structure at 2 and 11 K has been discussed in our previous study 27. In addition to the two temperature points, in Figure we show the ARPES spectra as a function of temperature, approaching and crossing T N .…”

“…For other surfaces, which do not retain any mirror or TL symmetry, the surface states are gapped and the hinge states, associated with higher order TI states, emerge at the edges of these surfaces 25,26. Although the spin fluctuation induced topological Weyl semimetal EuCd 2 As 2 has been uncovered in the paramagnetic phase,27 it still awaits to expose the variety of possible novel topological phases in the AFM ground states.…”
