Spin-memory loss at Co/Ru interfaces

Abstract: We have determined the spin-memory-loss parameter, δ Co/Ru , by measuring the transmission of spin-triplet and spin-singlet Cooper pairs across Co/Ru interfaces in Josephson junctions and by Current-Perpendicular-to-Plane Giant Magnetoresistance (CPP-GMR) techniques. The probability of spin-memory loss at the Co/Ru interface is (1 − exp(−δ Co/Ru )). From the CPP-MR, we obtain δ Co/Ru = 0.34 +0.04 −0.02 that is in good agreement with δ Co/Ru = 0.35 ± 0.08 obtained from spin-triplet transmission. For spin-single… Show more

“…The transverse (field-like, HT) field turned out to be larger than the longitudinal (antidamping-like, HL), whereas in our work it was not detected at all, while the value of the longitudinal field in the Ru/Co/Ru structure is almost an order of magnitude larger. [35,36], so the value of is slightly less than the previously defined data for the mixed α + β crystalline phase of W:…”

“…Measurements on Co/Ni [91], (Co 91 Fe 9 )/Cu [213], and Co/Ag [212] all gave moderate values of δ in the range 0.19 to 0.35, as listed in Table 16. Co/Ru, measured two different ways, gave δ Co/Ru = 0.33 −0.02 +0.04 and 0.35±0.08 [214].…”

“…Aside from the complication of the current density distribution, other effects enter. In the SP, the interface leads to the spin memory loss [44][45][46]; in the meanwhile, it creates an interface inverse Edelstein effect [47]. For the STT, there are complications on the relative contributions of the spin torque from the interface and bulk.…”
