“…While this work focuses on laser ablation in brain, there are diverse organs that receive laser ablation at various levels of clinical maturity, including breast (69), liver (70), pancreas, prostate (71), and spine (72, 73), sometimes with therapeutic enhancing agents, e.g., nanoparticles and dyes (7476). At this time, it is not clear to the authors whether or not the proposed steady state model within a train-and-predict paradigm is widely applicable to other body sites.…”

“…During protocol enrollment, laser interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) was developed at our Phase 1 SSRS Cord Dose Escalation institution offering a minimally invasive option for surgical separation of epidural tumor. (26,32,33) As such, more patients were eligible for operative intervention with this minimally invasive approach reducing the number of patients eligible for the current study. The limited enrollment on this study limits our ability to perform secondary analyses to investigate factors which may correlate with local control in this setting.…”

“…Global Spine Journal 10(2S) safety and feasibility of LITT, initially developed for ablation of intracranial pathologies, has been described by Tatsui et al [23][24][25][26] In combination with SBRT, LITT reduced the epidural tumor volume while improving pain control and healthrelated quality of life (HRQoL). 23,27 In brief, the laser probe is inserted under navigation to the affected epidural space, typically via a transpedicular, vertical, or translaminar approach. 26 Thermal energy is then delivered under real-time MRI monitoring.…”
