Spontaneous charge polarization in single-electron tunneling through coupled nanowires

Abstract: Recent observations of periodic anomalies in conductance of two-dimensional arrays of densely packed metal or semiconductor nanowires give some indication on the importance of collective charge excitations in such systems. These structures can be viewed as parallel arrays of double-tunnel-junction systems with nanowires in the middle which are electrostatically coupled to each other. To assess possible effects of the interwire coupling on the electron transport in such arrays, we investigate the electrical beh… Show more

“…In the past decade, much effort has been devoted to the nanostructured materials due to their fundamental and technological importance [1][2][3][4]. As an important preparation route, template method is widely used in preparing one-dimensional nanostructured materials, such as nanotubes and nanowires by filling the channels [5][6][7][8].…”

“…Deionized water with resistivity larger than 18 MO cm was used. The Fe 3 rotor in silicon oil at 150 C and 180 C for 1-3 h. During the hydrothermal reaction, the pH value was maintained at 9. The crystalline powders after hydrothermal process were collected and washed by de-ionized water, separated by a centrifugal separator and dried in a freeze dryer.…”

“…Low-dimensional nanostructures such as nanowires, nanorods, and quantum dots have been an interesting field of research due to their unique chemical and physical characteristics. The fabrication of magnetic nanostructures has also attracted much interest because of their application in high density media, sensors, and other devices [2,3]. Furthermore, oxide surfaces can be easily incorporated with organic functional groups through surface condensation or self-assembly [4].…”

“…Attention has been devoted over the last decade to the physical behavior of the nanostructured materials due to their wide range of applications in high-density magnetic-recording media [1], single electron devices [2], biomedical application and various sensor devices [3]. Among these materials, metal nanowires have been the focus of extensive research activities due to their unusual properties [4].…”
