“…The use of corticosteroids, which is another conservative treatment method, has anti-inflammatory effects and causes a temporary reduction in pain, but it may also cause tendon weakening and rupture. Tendon ruptures have been reported in the literature, especially after repeated steroid injections (21)(22)(23). No such complications are observed in kinesiologic taping treatment in our study and in literature.…”

“…The reduction of all examined collagen subtypes indicates that Dex may lead to a weakening of tendon structure. It is therefore not surprising that spontaneous ruptures have been linked to injections of corticosteroids in tendons [2128]. Our results give a plausible molecular explanation for that.…”

“…Clinical studies on the use of glucocorticoids for tendinopathies have reported short-term pain relief but poor long-term effects including a weakening of tendon structure on the longer perspective [19, 20]. In fact, many reports about spontaneous, often non-traumatic tendon ruptures following the use of these substances have been published [2128]. …”

“…5 Closed late ruptures may also derive from iatrogenic causes as intratendinous steroid injections or after some surgical treatments, such as plating distal radius fractures. [6][7][8][9][10] Closed tendon rupture is a rare complication of the Kienböck disease. In this pathological condition, the blood supply to the lunate is interrupted by various causes and results in a progres sive osteonecrosis, with bone deformities at the late stages.…”
