St. Joachimsthal Mines and their Importance in the Early History of Radioactivity

Abstract: A short discussion of the history of the ore mining in St. Joachimsthal is presented, emphasizing its role in the discovery and production of radium, production of uranium dyes and in the development of radiotherapy. The historical procedures used in the production of uranium and radium in St. Joachimsthal are also briefly outlined.
