“…Mini‐implants were first offered in 1992 by MTI Dentatus, 3M ESPE MDI, and MDI IMTEX Sendax . Although they were initially marketed as temporary implants, they have been adapted as definitive implants in older patients, in patients with diabetes, hypertensive patients, and children with ectodermal dysplasia who do not qualify for conventional implants Their use ranges from immediate prostheses to orthodontic applications, and they are even used in fixed or removable prosthodontics . These implants may assist in retention of mandibular overdentures in patients with atrophic ridges, as anchorage for orthodontic attachments, in patients with severe maxillary ridge resorption, and for esthetic restoration of anterior edentulous areas …”

“…4,8,9,21 These implants may assist in retention of mandibular overdentures in patients with atrophic ridges, as anchorage for orthodontic attachments, in patients with severe maxillary ridge resorption, and for esthetic restoration of anterior edentulous areas. 4,[8][9][10]13,15,16,[19][20][21][22][23] The advantages of mini-implants versus conventional implants are their ease and convenience: they can be placed in patients with flapless surgery, they can be immediately loaded, 4,10,24 they have lower associated costs, 4,8,21 and patients can see immediate results. 5,8 Mini-implants may be indicated for improving retention of mandibular dentures, particularly when conventional implants cannot be placed.…”

“…When needed, a second stage implant surgery is applied for removal of the cover screw and abutment placement [34,35]. Considering that generally edentulous patients are aged, with systemic comorbidities and less availability to complex surgical intervention, simpler one-stage surgical interventions are usually preferred [36].Considering that, mini or narrow dental implants may be preferred for increasing the denture retention, due to the simpler and shorter medical intervention [37][38][39].…”
