This article proposes an adaptive Kernel-Hebbian least mean square (KHLMS) controller for a dual voltage source inverter (VSI). The recommended topology consists of a distributed energy resource (DER) supported VSI called main VSI (MVSI) and split capacitor supported VSI termed as auxiliary VSI (AVSI). Both the MVSI and AVSI are used to serve the shunt compensation when DER is not integrated with MVSI. The DER scenario is considered to suppress the active power flow shortage in the utility grid. Here, optimal active power flow control (OAPFC) is managed by MVSI and shunt compensation is achieved by AVSI during DER operated mode. Hence, a dual VSI based distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) facilitates the configuration merits such as reduction in system downtime cost, filter rating switching stress etc. Supremacy of both the neural network (NN) based controller and topology is presented by comparing VSI (called AVSI) in the context of harmonic reduction in source side, voltage balancing, power factor (PF) enhancement, better voltage regulation and OAPFC. The experimental results are obtained through field programmable gate array (FPGA) based hardware units which exhibit radical improvement in the power quality (PQ) conferring as per the international standard grid code (IEEE-519-2017).

Optimal reactive power dispatch involves the determination and management of reactive power resources in a power system to maintain voltage stability, improve power transfer capability, and minimize system losses. Reactive power is essential for maintaining voltage levels within acceptable limits and ensuring the reliable operation of electrical networks. The whale optimization algorithm (WOA) has been proposed to obtain the optimal location of flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) components. The efficacy of WOA is tested using conventional IEEE 14 and 30 bus test systems. Static var compensator (SVC) is used as shunt and the thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) as a series FACTS controller. The analysis is carried out for both the systems with and without FACTS controllers. Optimization techniques are applied to select the optimal control parameters. The suggested strategy is compared to other contemporary techniques such as particle swarm optimization (PSO) and grey wolf optimization (GWO). At various loading situations, the WOA-based technique outperforms other two techniques.

The paper introduces a hybrid control strategy for optimised active power management in Algeria's Kabertene wind farm, crucial for the pole insalah-adrar-timimoune (PIAT) grid's stability. This strategy merges simultaneous interconnection and damping assignment (SIDA) passivity theory, passivity-based control (PBC), and multivariable proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers. This combined approach ensures frequency and voltage stability within the PIAT grid, which encompasses various elements like wind farms, solar plants, gas turbines, and dynamic impedance (Z), current (I), and active power (P) (D-ZIP), load model. By tailoring controllers for doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) using SIDA-PBC principles and optimising internal parameters, the strategy achieves precise control of active power output. Additionally, particle swarm optimisation (PSO) refines power scheduling, which is especially beneficial for intermittent renewable sources like DFIGs. This comprehensive strategy offers numerous advantages: improved network stability, minimized voltage deviations, reduced frequency fluctuations, and enhanced integration of renewable energy sources. The paper emphasises practical implementation considerations, providing valuable guidance for efficient Kabertene wind farm operation and integration. This research contributes significantly to fostering cleaner and more reliable energy systems, facilitating the PIAT grid's transition towards sustainable energy generation.
